Prayer Challenge #8: Back to School Prayer

YOU’RE INVITED!

Join us for the Summer Challenge closing event:
Monday, August 11 at 6:30p
The Commons | Calvary Church

We’ll gather to celebrate what God has done and hear stories of answered prayer before going to pray at local schools

Challenge

As summer draws to a close, we invite you to intentionally pray for our schools, students, and staff as a new academic year begins. Whether you're walking through your neighborhood, picking up new school supplies, or driving past a school - use that moment as a prompt to pray

(Please exhibit safe driving techniques while praying and driving – i.e. don’t close your eyes. Do not text and drive.)

Tips

A new school year can bring opportunity, change, and sometimes anxiety. As followers of Jesus, we have the privilege of praying over our students and communities during these transitions.

Before You Begin

SPIRIT: “Lord, How Should I Pray?”

  • “In the same way the Spirit also helps us in our weakness, because we do not know what to pray for as we should, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with inexpressible groanings.” - Romans 8:26

  • Ask the Holy Spirit to bring specific people or schools to mind. Be open to nudges – names, faces, even places you pass while driving. Keep your heart tender to what God may be saying.

As You Pray

STUDENTS - “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding.” Proverbs 3:5

  • Pray for academic growth, wise friendships, and joyful learning. Pray for peace as students face new teachers, classrooms, and expectations.

  • Ask God to help students stand strong in their identity and worth in Christ.

  • Lift up students who struggle with anxiety, bullying, or loneliness.

STAFF (Teachers, Administrators, Coaches, Aides) - “Whatever you do, do it from the heart, as something done for the Lord and not for people.” Colossians 3:23

  • Pray for stamina, creativity, and joy in their work.

  • Ask God to protect them from burnout and discouragement.

  • Lift up Christian educators—that they would be salt and light.

SAFETY - “The Lord is my shepherd; I have what I need. … Even when I go through the darkest valley, I fear no danger, for you are with me.” Psalm 23:1, 4

  • Pray against violence, bullying, and fear.

  • Ask God to protect schools from harm and give wisdom to leaders.

  • Lift up school resource officers and counselors as they serve and protect.

SALVATION - “This is good, and it pleases God our Savior, who wants everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.” 1 Timothy 2:3-4

  • Pray for Christian students to live with boldness and kindness.

  • Ask for open doors for students and staff to hear and respond to the gospel.

  • Pray for revival among young people so that this generation would hunger for Jesus.
