Challenge
Pray to God our creator, surrounded by his creation.
(Please be wise and use common safety skills when being in nature – i.e. consider using sunscreen or bear repellant)
Tips
This challenge may take some planning. Set an intentional time to go for a walk or spend time in nature, where you won't be distracted by your phone. Someplace like a quiet spot in your yard, the woods, or a walk on the beach. Leave your phone behind, grab your sunglasses, a notebook, and a water bottle and enjoy being in God’s creation.
Before You Begin
Ask the Holy Spirit to quiet your heart and to open your eyes to his creation in a new way. Take a deep breath and just spend some time observing nature around you – from the sky to the ground.
As You Pray
What do you see? Start naming those things out loud, write them down, and thank the Lord for each of them. As you are thanking the Lord for each of these things, allow each of these things to really touch your heart. Take a pause between each item and think about what it took for God to make it. How delicate or intricate was it to make? The thought process it took to come up with such a beautiful thing.
Keep looking around and walk around a little bit more. Do you notice something you haven’t noticed before? Thank the Lord for that piece of creation. Spend some time recognizing that the God of Creation, the Maker of heaven and earth, made you for this very moment. He made your eyes to see, your ears to hear, your hands to feel, your nose to smell all that he created. And he not only did it for his glory, but also for your enjoyment!
