Prayer Challenge #4: Prayer While You Wait

Challenge

Pray while you wait. We all end up waiting in line at some point. Don’t miss that line as an opportunity to pray for others.

(Please exhibit safe driving techniques while praying and driving – i.e. don’t close your eyes.)

Tips

Some verses to reflect on while you wait.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-22 “Rejoice always, pray constantly, give thanks in everything; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. Don’t stifle the Spirit. Don’t despise prophecies but test all things. Hold on to what is good. Stay away from every kind of evil.”

Ephesians 5:16 “making the most of the time, because the days are evil.”

Before You Begin

Ask the Holy Spirit what you should pray and who you should pray for. Invite him to guide you. Pray for anything the Spirit reveals or brings to your mind.

As You Pray

How many times a day do we wait in line? We wait in the drive thru at Starbucks or McDonalds. We wait in line at the grocery store. We wait in line at the toll road. Or we wait in line for the bathroom. Oftentimes we become impatient, start tapping our toes, checking the clock for the hundredth time, or grumbling at those around us. As Paul wrote, “pray constantly.” (1 Thessalonians 5:17). Look up from your watch or your phone and pray for those around you.

Pray for the people in line with you.

  • Pray for those who are stuck in traffic with you.

  • Pray for the person in line in front of you and moving slowly.

Pray for the people working around you.

  • Pray for the person who caused the traffic jam.

  • Pray for the bank teller helping those in line.

After You Pray

We want to hear how you’re meeting the challenge and seeing God work.

  • Record a brief video of yourself (using your own phone) and email it to media@calvaryweb.net

    • Find a quiet place to record.

    • Find a place with lots of light shining on your face but not shining behind you.

    • Check your surroundings to be clear.

  • Write your experience by going to Your Summer Challenge Story

    • What did you find yourself praying for most today?

    • Was there someone or something especially heavy on your heart?

    • How is God changing you or your prayer life?

  • Invite a friend. Send them this link to sign up. www.calvaryweb.net/summer-challenge
