Tuesday Night @ Submerged

WHAT WE LEARNED

Nicodemus looked very different from Zacchaeus, but Jesus saw that he was a sinner and need to be “born again.” No matter what he did, Nicodemus could not give himself “new life,” but Jesus came to rescue him, too.

SONGS! SNACKS! and MORE!

TALK ABOUT IT

Here are the questions we talked about in snack time. Ask your child(ren) the questions and get a conversation going at home!

  1. How was Nicodemus SO different from Zacchaeus?

Answer: Everyone thought Zacchaeus was a big sinner and didn’t like him because he stole money from people. But they thought Nicodemus was amazing and good because he studied God’s law, taught about it, and tried to do all the right things.

  2. Why did Nicodemus go to talk with Jesus at night?

Answer: Because the other religious leaders didn't like Jesus, so he didn’t want people to see him talking to Jesus.

  3. What did Jesus mean when he told Nicodemus that he needed to be “born again”?

Answer: He needed to have a new life – to have a relationship with God, instead of being separated from Him.

  4. What about all the good things that Nicodemus knew about God? And all the good things he did? Didn’t those things give him a relationship with God?

Answer: No – Romans 3:23 says that we are ALL sinners; even the very best person is a sinner, so we are separated from God and deserve punishment. And there is nothing we can do to fix that!

We need to know that no matter how often we go to church, or how good we try to be, we cannot rescue ourselves. But God loved the world - love each us US - so much that he sent Jesus to die in our place. He gives us new life, we are “born again” when we confess/believe/and grab on to Jesus to rescue us.
