Jesus Reframes Hope

Printable Version

Welcome to the Reframing Lent discussion guide! We’ve changed the format so there are fewer questions and less material to read. There’s more opportunity for your group to think, talk, and pray together as the Holy Spirit leads you.

  • Remember that groups are where we watch and are on alert with one another for Jesus’ promised return.

  • Go to Psalm 27 and have one person read it as a prayer over your group.
If the group wants to continue this reflection, allow time for members to re-read aloud phrases or verses that stood out or feel particularly relevant to them. You can simply re-read or say a few words about why the verse resonated with you.

  • Ask a group member to read Mark 13:1-37.

  • How does Jesus’ future return and the coming kingdom of God affect your life now?
That’s a broad question. If you’re having trouble answering, consider: emotions you experience about his return or about heaven; the tension of living in an “in-between” time, or why it might not be affecting your life much at all.

  • To watch and be alert (Mark 13:33) is good. It’s anticipatory. See Mark 13:34-37. What does it look like to watch and be alert?

  • Where do you need the Holy Spirit to work in your life to prepare you for Jesus’ return and the coming kingdom of God?

  • Are there ways that Jesus has been teaching you to reframe your expectations of him and your hopes in him during this Lent season?

  • How can we pray for you?
