We’re continuing the simplified discussion format we started with Reframing Lent for the new I Will Build My Church sermon series. The goal is not to “get through the questions” or to find the right answers.

The goal of group discussion is to share what God is doing in you and what you’re coming to understand about God with one another. Sometimes your group will need a bit of quiet to process a question. Be okay with silence! Sometimes the Holy Spirit will nudge you to speak (or not speak!), and occasionally someone may need encouragement to contribute. Be open and honest as you share, and thoughtful and supportive as you listen to others.

  • As you prepare for the conversation, pray for God’s Spirit to open your mind to what he would teach you today. Ask a group member to read John 14:15-27 aloud slowly as the group reflects on Jesus’ words.

  • Ask group members to read

    Ephesians 4:1-4 (connect)

    Ephesians 4:13-15 (grow)

    1 Peter 4:10-11 (serve)

    Matthew 28:19-20 (send)

  • How does a pathway like the one below help describe the work of the church? How does it help describe the Christian life?

  • How does the Holy Spirit help disciples connect, grow, serve, and live sent?

Use the next questions for further discussion and prayer time together:

  • While we don’t do just one thing at time on this pathway, we do have seasons when one part of the pathway is emphasized, often because we have a need or God is preparing us for something. Share what part of the pathway you’re leaning into right now and why.

  • How can we pray for you?
