Children’s K-5th Grade Coordinator

Position Summary
The role of the Children’s K-5th Grade Coordinator is to lead the planning and implementation of Calvary Kids Sunday morning ministries. This includes overseeing, shepherding, and training volunteer teachers, equipping and supporting them to teach on Sunday mornings, managing the classroom environment, and ensuring that classrooms have the necessary supplies. This role requires an understanding of (and alignment with) Calvary Church's mission (“experiencing the gospel changing lives forever”), vision, theological distinctives, discipleship pathway, and strategies as they partner with parents and families to help lead children to a genuine sense of belonging, an understanding of the gospel, and ongoing spiritual growth.
The Children’s K-5th Grade Coordinator reports to the Director of Children’s Ministries and collaborates closely with others on the Children’s Ministries team and across the church, as needed. The Children’s K-5th Grade Coordinator will passionately champion Calvary’s team culture (keeping Jesus at the center, pursuing excellence that honors God, building one another up, and learning and growing together). They should actively cultivate a growing personal relationship with Christ and demonstrate integrity in their words, relationships, and actions as they serve the Calvary Church family.

Responsibilities and Duties
The Children’s K-5th Grade Coordinator will:
1. Plan and coordinate Calvary Kids Sunday morning teaching and activities:
Ensure classrooms have adequate equipment and supplies and are set up for classes before each Sunday morning.
Schedule volunteers to teach in classes and large groups.
Oversee the delivery of the teaching curriculum in age-appropriate ways, both in classes and in the large group sessions, by preparing activities, communicating lesson plans, and equipping volunteer teachers and helpers as they serve.
Be a presence on Sunday mornings to encourage and support volunteers.
Ensure that safeguarding processes are followed.
2. Oversee, support, and shepherd Children’s Ministries volunteers:
Lead the recruitment process for volunteer teachers and helpers, ensuring that all requirements (interviews, documentation, safeguarding, etc.) are met.
Orient and shepherd new volunteers in their roles.
Work with the Director of Children’s Ministries and other staff to train, mentor, coach, and show appreciation to volunteers.
Identify volunteers with greater leadership potential and provide opportunities for further growth as appropriate.
3. Have oversight of the K-5th-grade Bible studies in spring and fall:
Support and empower the volunteers leading these activities.
Choose or approve the proposed Bible studies.
Provide logistical support: purchases, communications with parents, etc.
4. Provide administrative assistance for Children’s Ministries systems:
Help implement overall Children’s Ministries processes for communication, scheduling, and follow-up.
Coordinate administrative needs for Sunday morning ministries.
Support with managing and tracking the budget for Sunday morning ministries.
5. Support the Director of Children’s Ministries in implementing the overall vision and strategies for children’s ministries at Calvary.
6. Contribute toward the health of the Children’s Ministries team and wider staff team:
Champion Calvary’s team culture values in their ministry and interactions with others.
Work with the rest of the Children’s Ministries team as they serve and care for our children, families, and volunteers.
Participate in Children’s Ministries and other staff team meetings, prayer meetings, planning sessions, retreats, etc.
Carry out any additional reasonable responsibilities under the direction of the Director of Children’s Ministries.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
Relevant formal qualification(s) and/or training in working with children are preferred.
Extensive prior practical experience serving (as staff or volunteer) in a church’s children’s ministry is essential.
Work Schedule
Typical hours: 20 hours a week.
Must be available on Sundays, some evenings, and for holiday services, as necessary.

Resolving Conflict: All staff members are expected to follow the principles outlined in Matthew 18:15-20 and resolve conflicts biblically, first regarding other staff members, second in relation to the individuals they are ministering to, and third, concerning the church family at large.
