January 13, 2019 - As part of the proposed leadership structure introduced at the Calvary Family Meeting on 1.13.19, the elder board recommends that Jon’s volunteer role as elder chair expand for the foreseeable future to come alongside the proposed Pastor of Operations (PO), Al Lackey, and proposed Lead Teaching Pastor (LTP), Josh Reasoner, to lead the senior leadership team of Calvary Church and oversee key ministry areas not covered by the PO or LTP.

He will oversee leadership development efforts, participate in the teaching team working in cooperation with the LTP, and be accessible to the congregation. Jon’s role will be officially expanded on March 1, 2019 assuming the Restated Calvary Church Constitution is approved on February 15, 2019.

A 1975 graduate of Valparaiso High School, Jon Costas received his B.A. from St. Joseph's College in Rensselaer, Indiana, and a law degree from Valparaiso University School of Law in 1989, and a masters degree in practical theology from Wesley Seminary in 2017. Jon is currently the mayor of Valparaiso, and has held that office since 2004.

Jon currently serves as elder chair at Calvary and is active in teaching adult Bible classes as well as leadership workshops. 

Jon is an energetic community leader and has served on numerous state and local boards and community efforts. He is active in a variety of activities including running, biking, flying, playing guitar and reading. Jon and his wife Sharon have four adult children and live in Valparaiso. They have been members of Calvary since 2004.
