Kids Alive Guatemala
In 2013, several staff members from Calvary had the opportunity to visit the ministries of Kids Alive Guatemala. Guatemala is known for it’s incredible Mayan ruins and aromatic coffee, but it is also a country that struggles with deep poverty and tragic social issues. Guatemala ranks third worst in the world in child nutrition and has become a leading participant in human trafficking. In both rural areas and cities, thousands of children are victimized through abuse, forced labor, and absolute neglect.
In response to these needs, Kids Alive has developed a unique ministry as part of a system for rescuing, healing, and restoring girl victims of sexual and physical abuse. Residential care is provided, as well as emotional, spiritual and medical care the girls need to recover from sexual trauma.
In 2014, Calvary began a new partnership with Kids Alive Guatemala to develop a residential home that provides extensive care for girls who have become pregnant due to abuse. This home became a reality late in the same year and is now serving young girls and their babies that have experienced unimaginable trauma.
