OUR PURPOSE
The Deacon Care Ministry exists for the purpose of assisting the pastors in meeting the spiritual
and physical needs of members of Calvary Church.
BIBLICAL FOUNDATION
The office of deacon is the result of the early church’s struggle to meet the needs of a growing church
without placing too much of a burden on the Pastors, so they can be free to do what they do best--“minister God’s Word and pray for His church.” Many times unbiblical expectations are placed on
pastors which distracts them from meeting the spiritual needs of the church. Acts 6:1-7 teaches that
the purpose of the offce of deacon is to assist the pastors in meeting the needs of the congregation
so that they can remain focused on prayer and the ministry of the Word.
ORGANIZATION
In order to be sure that the entire congregation is receiving adequate spiritual care, each deacon has
been entrusted with the care of a portion of the church membership. Each church member is assigned
a “Deacon Care Group” and the deacon who has been placed over them is responsible to be attentive
to the spiritual needs of those who are under their care. Matters that require the attention of the pastors
are referred to them at the deacon’s discretion.
ROLE OF A DEACON...
1. Deacons provide care by knowing and regularly contacting members of their care group.
2. Deacons provide care by regularly praying for members in their care group.
3. Deacons provide care by being alert to special needs and responding. RESPONSIBLITY OF MEMBERS
Members should know who their deacons are, pray for them, contact them when they have a special
need or prayer request, and allow them to minister to them and their families. If you do not know who
