A 1975 graduate of Valparaiso High School, Jon received his B.A. from St. Joseph's College in Rensselaer, Indiana, and his law degree from Valparaiso University School of Law in 1989. Jon is currently the mayor of Valparaiso, and has held that office since 2004. He is also an attorney with Burke, Costanza, and Cuppy LLP, and specializes in the field of Elder Law, having obtained his certification in elder law from the National Law Foundation.
Jon is an energetic community leader and has served on numerous state and local boards and community efforts. He is also a small business owner. Most people are surprised to know that Jon was a performer on the Gong Show in 1977 (and no, he didn’t get gonged!)
Mayor Costas enjoys a variety of activities including running, biking, reading, guitar, song-writing, home recording, and competing in triathlons. He has completed five Ironman distance triathlons. Jon and his wife Sharon have four children and live on Valparaiso's north side. They have been members of Calvary since 2004, and both are very active in Calvary’s worship team.
